Can I claim flight refund and compensation? ›

Passengers can receive both a refund of an airline ticket and compensation for the cancellation, provided that their flight qualifies for compensation. To qualify, the airline must have let you know about the flight cancellation less than 14 days before it was due to depart.

If a Guest cancels a reservation within 24 hours or less from booking, for a flight that is seven or more days away, they are eligible for a full refund in the original form of payment. Guests who are not entitled to a refund will receive a Reservation Credit for the value of the reservation.

WASHINGTON – The Biden-Harris Administration today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued a final rule that requires airlines to promptly provide passengers with automatic cash refunds when owed.

Airlines can no longer decide how long a delay must be before a refund is issued. Under the new DOT rules, the delays covered would be more than three hours for domestic flights and more than six hours for international flights, the agency said.

With Spirit Airlines, you can receive a full refund for your tickets if you cancel your booking within 24 hours from when you first made the booking. After the 24-hour period has expired, you won't be eligible for a full refund.

If the booking was made between 10 and 26 hours, it should be cancelled 8 hours prior to the flight departure time to avail your flight ticket cancellation refund. If the booking was made between 26 hours and 91 days, it should be cancelled 24 hours prior to the flight departure time.
