Trash & Recycling Program Event Dates (2024)

Click & Haul - bulky or large item collections

Event Dates: Click & Haul collections are scheduled during the work week, depending on your address. Thornton residents can use this service to: Get rid of clutter in the garage or basem*nt, plan a do-it-yourself room remodel, clean up the yard or storage shed, get rid of recently replaced furniture or appliances, or for a rental property cleanup!

Location: Items must be placed in an orderly fashion (stacked/bundled) at the curb by 7 a.m. the day of the scheduled collection.

Guidelines: The cost is just $72 per collection for 6 cubic yards of stuff, which would fill two normal-sized pickup truck loads. More than two full pickup loads = $121 or more. Restrictions and limitations apply. The cost of service is placed on the next utility bill for payment. Furniture, appliances, mattresses/box springs, hot water heaters, fence panels, branches, remodeling debris, and evaporative coolers are eligible for pickup.

Restrictions: NO hazardous materials (i.e., flammable liquids, oil, paint, fertilizer, chemical cleaners, etc.). NO tires. NO concrete or masonry demolition (driveway concrete, wall blocks, or gravel). NO televisions, computer monitors, DVD players, and other certain electronics.

Electronic Recycling Drop-off Days at Techno Rescue

Dates:
Weekdays: September 16 - October 4
Saturdays: September 21 & September 28

Times:
Weekday times: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Saturday times: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Location: Techno Rescue, 3251 Lewiston Street, Suite 10, Aurora, CO

Guidelines: Adams County and the city of Thornton invite residents to drop off their electronic waste (computers, laptops, tablets, cell phones, televisions, computer monitors, hard drives, DVD players, scanners, printers, radios, etc.) at Techno Rescue's facility by appointment where items will be recycled safely and responsibly to ensure a high level of data destruction for desktops, laptops, and other data containing equipment. There will be a $15 per vehicle fee for items dropped off, including all electronics and one TV/CRT monitor. Vehicles with up to three TVs/CRT monitors will be charged $25. Cash and credit card will be accepted.

This event is open to all residents of Adams County only. Not Accepted: TVs and Monitors with exposed tubes. Anything that contains freon or other chemicals.

Adams County and city of Thornton are pleased to partner with Techno Rescue for recycling services on this event. For specific questions on certain electronics and data destruction, please call Techno Rescue directly at 303-482-2207.

Online registration will be available 6 weeks prior to event date.

Fall Leaf Curbside Collection

Dates: October 21 - November 15

Guidelines: Thornton trash/recycle customers may place bagged leaves at the curb for collection on their regular trash day. Please fill black trash containers first.

This service is for Thornton trash customers only.

Fall Leaf Drop-off Days

Dates: Saturday, October 26 & November 2

Time: 8 a.m. - noon

Location: Thornton's Infrastructure Maintenance Center, 12450 Washington Street, Thornton, CO 80241. Use the north entrance, accessed from 126th Avenue, east of Washington Street.

Guidelines: Thornton residents may bring leaves and organic material to the Infrastructure Maintenance Center (IMC). Proof of residency is required. Residents will be responsible for unloading all material. Any leaves or material in bags must be opened on site other than Lawn & Leaf sacks.
No commercial or landscaping companies.

Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Voucher Program

Dates: By appointment only, valid April 3 - November 30, 2024

Location: Veolia's facility located at 9131 E. 96th Ave., Henderson, CO

Guidelines: Thornton residents may drop off household hazardous waste for recycling at the Veolia Colorado Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Center. Fees apply. Appointments are available on Wednesdays and Saturdays only and can be made online or by calling 303-526-8155.

Voucher instructions: To receive a voucher worth the $27 facility fee only (resident is responsible for and agrees to pay the per pound fee), please send an email to environmentalservices@ThorntonCO.gov with your name and address. Please type, "VEOLIA VOUCHER REQUEST" in the subject line. One voucher per household per year. A unique voucher will be emailed to you and MUST be printed, taken to Veolia at the time of your drop-off, and handed to their attendant. Restrictions and limitations apply. Landfill Days

Dates: Saturday, June 15, August 24, October 19

Time: 7 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Location: Republic Services Tower Landfill located at 19260 E. 88th Ave., Commerce City, CO 80022

Guidelines: Landfill days allow Thornton residents to bring items to the Republic Services Tower Landfill that they may not be able to dispose of through their regular trash service. One load per household. Mattresses and box springs are subject to a fee of $34 each. Proof of residency is required. Non-hazardous debris only. Pickup, cars, and small single-axle trailer loads only (less than 5 yards). All loads must be covered. Commercial loads are subject to applicable fees. No liquids, electronics, tires, car batteries, medical waste, ammunition, fireworks, or fluorescent bulbs will be accepted. Safety vests must be worn at all times and are available at the landfill for $3.

Tree Branch/Compost Material Drop-off

Dates: Saturday, June 8, July 13, August 10, September 14

Time: 8 a.m. - noon

Location: Thornton's Infrastructure Maintenance Center, 12450 Washington Street, Thornton, CO 80241. Use the north entrance, accessed from 126th Avenue, east of Washington Street.

Guidelines: Thornton residents may bring tree branches, limbs, and organic material to the Infrastructure Maintenance Center (IMC). Proof of residency is required. Residents will be responsible for unloading their branches and all organic material. Any organic material in bags must be opened on site (only exception are 3 gallon fully compostable kitchen bags). No commercial or landscaping companies.
