Many NJ FamilyCare members need help getting to medical appointments. Transportation is important to improving health and well-being. To address this concern, Medicaid covers “non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT)” rides for eligible individuals to obtain medically necessary, covered services.

Dial-A-Rides are municipally-sponsored local transportation for senior citizens. Some may be able to accommodate persons with disabilities.

ModivCare is the transportation vendor for people enrolled in Medicaid or NJ FamilyCare. Members may call them at 1-866-527-9933 (TTY 1-866-288-3133) to set up a transportation appointment.

Compliance with state and federal regulations is crucial for NEMT businesses. You'll need to obtain the necessary licenses and permits in NEW Jersey. Additionally, you must register your business, acquire liability insurance, and ensure your vehicle meets safety and accessibility standards.

After you meet the Part B deductible, Original Medicare will pay 80% of covered medical transportation costs. You are responsible for 20% of the Medicare-approved expenses.

What is Modivcare responsible for in New Jersey? ›

LogistiCare, the non-emergency medical transportation vendor for NJ FamilyCare members, is now Modivcare. You still have access to the same benefits for non-emergency transportation for medical care, only the name has changed.

To get a home care license in New Jersey and launch your home care business, you must first submit a New Jersey home care license application along with the application fee. At this point, you will need training on many things from hiring staff to going out and marketing your business.

To get the contract, you'll have to send an application to the Medicaid Transportation Management Service (MAS). All NEMT providers must get an approval from the NY State Department of Health through the MAS. The whole procedure is digitized and quite straightforward.
