How to calculate refund amount in IRCTC? ›

Cancellation charges are per passenger. If a confirmed ticket is cancelled within 48 hrs and up to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, cancellation charges shall be 25% of the fare subject to the minimum flat rate mentioned in the above clause.

If the train is marked as "CANCELLED" in Passenger Reservation System (PRS) due to breaches, floods, accidents etc., full refund is permissible in case the ticket is cancelled within three days of the scheduled departure of the train. In case of e-tickets, such cancellation can be done by the customer through Internet.

In such a case, cancellation charges will be 25% of the total fare paid (subject to a minimum flat cancellation charge). In such a case, cancellation charges will be 50% of the total fare paid but subject to a minimum flat cancellation charge for each class.

Every year, your refund is calculated as the amount withheld for federal income tax, minus your total federal income tax for the year. A large portion of the money being withheld from each of your paychecks does not actually go toward federal income tax.

Calculating your return rate

To calculate your return rate, divide the number of units returned by the number of units sold, multiplying the product by 100 to find your percentage. For example, if you sold 100 widgets, and 10 widgets were returned, you would divide 10 by 100, which equals 0.1.

If you cancel a booking, IRCTC levies a cancellation processing fee of Rs 250 per passenger per segment. Remember that this is in addition to the airline's own cancellation charges. If you make an amendment to your booking, we charge an amendment processing fee of Rs 250 per passenger per sector.

So, if you cancel a waiting tatkal ticket before the second and final chart preparation (i.e. at least 30 minutes before scheduled departure time) you will be refunded the entire amount less clerkage which is Rs.60 per passenger.

IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) typically takes around 7 to 10 working days to process and refund money for a cancelled train ticket.

Can I claim a refund for a Cancelled train? ›

Yes, you can get a refund for your unused train ticket, with no fees, if your train is delayed or cancelled and you decide not to travel. If you want to get a refund for another reason, you may have to pay a fee.

Once your railway ticket is confirmed, you cannot cancel it after the chart preparation. However, you can file a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) with a valid reason to check whether you are eligible for a refund or not. In such cases, it will entirely depend on the Zonal Railway Division to grant you a refund.

Cancellation Charges for Waitlisted Tickets

a) In case a wait-listed ticket is cancelled online, the refund of fare shall be made after deducting the cancellation charge of ₹ 20/- +GST per passenger, if the ticket is cancelled online up to four hours before the Scheduled Departure of the Train.

After you book a ticket from IRCTC portal if you get a wait listed ticket and even after the chart preparation your status remains waiting, your ticket gets automatically cancelled and the amount is refunded to the account debited from.

In case Railways is not able to provide accommodation - full refund will be granted. Refund on tatkal ticket - if it is cancelled up to 24 hrs before the scheduled departure of the train 25% excluding the tatkal charges will be refunded. Thereafter no refund means would be zero refund.
