Senator Collins was a lead negotiator of the bipartisan legislation.

Washington, D.C. – Today, by a vote of 74-24, the U.S. Senate passed the second six-bill Fiscal Year (FY24) appropriations package. U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee and Subcommittee on Defense, was a lead negotiator of the bipartisan legislation, which now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

The legislation provides FY24 appropriations for: Defense; Financial Services and General Government; Homeland Security; Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies; Legislative Branch; and State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs.

“This legislation is truly a national security bill—seventy percent of the funding in this package is for our national defense, including investments that strengthen our military readiness and industrial base, provide pay and benefit increases for our brave servicemembers, and support our closest allies,” said Senator Collins. “This legislation also supports America’s working families, increases funding for biomedical research, and provides funding to better secure our borders and combat the transnational criminal organizations that are flooding our communities with fentanyl.”

“The Fiscal Year 2024 process has not been easy, but I am proud of the legislation this hardworking Committee has produced—two packages of twelve total individual bills that will fund important government programs, agencies, and departments through the end of the fiscal year,” Senator Collins continued. “I thank Chair Patty Murray for her leadership, and all of my colleagues on the Committee for their outstanding in assembling these packages.”

Since taking the helm of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senators Collins and Patty Murray committed to an appropriations process that provided Senators a voice in funding decisions through robust Committee proceedings that incorporated input from across the Senate. That commitment guided their process as the Committee reported favorably its versions of all twelve appropriations bills last summer with overwhelming bipartisan support.

Earlier this month, Senator Collins led passage of the first six-bill FY24 appropriations package.
