Is it better to cancel or rebook a flight? ›

If you purchased a round-trip flight and need to change the first leg to a different day, your best bet will likely be to pay the change fee and book a new flight. If you only need to change the return portion of a round trip, however, it may be cheaper to book a new one-way flight than to pay the cancellation fee.

It is possible to rebook flight award tickets within the validity period for the ticket. You can change the date and time, but not the route. Tickets for Fly Smart flight award and mileage bargains cannot be changed once they have been issued.

Similar to other nonrefundable tickets purchased, you'll receive a refund in the form of a travel credit. You can refund fully refundable tickets at any time to the original payment method. You can cancel award tickets and redeposit the miles you used without a fee.
