C-Hawk 235 - need info - owner or those who know
I am looking at a 1999 C-Hawk 235 that has been modified into more of a bay boat. It has a full transom with a porta bracket and 225 Mercury Optimax. A raised casting platform has been installed up front. It appears to be in pretty nice conditoin.
I would like any and all info about this hull and its expected performance. Specs state that it has a 18% deadrise and about an 18" draft. It appears to probably float and run in less water but c-hawk is unlike other mfg conservative with their performance figures. I want to use it as a bay boat and fish for reds, snook, trout but also head to near offshore structure for some fun.
Anyway let the comments begin.

Kmako,
I've been looking at this model for a while. It's important to note that this boat has more deadrise than most of C-Hawks other models like the 220 that tcm has and possibly the model slickster was on. They have a much shallower deadrise and less freeboard than the 235. Just want to make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

Roland, you are correct. The 235 is an 18 degree while the 22 and 23 cc's are 12. What is interesting is teh 25 cabin model is also a 12. Not sure why they stepped the hull back down in the a larger model.
The 235 should handle a variety of conditions especially with the tabs. The bow has a very steep front entry with the classic carolina flare so I don't see how it can be a wet boat. I hear folks talk so much about wet boats and believe they don't take into consideration the excact condition (wind, seas, etc...) and also the experience of the driver and his ability to trim out the hull according to the conditions. One captain may pound a boat while another perfers to work the tabs and make a smooth ride.
C-Hawk states the 235 it is a favorite among the SKA folks. The only worry I have is its draft of 18". I had been focusing on 12" draft boats but this 235 has really caught my eye. I need to decide if I can handle the 6" loss. It does have a porta bracket which would allow me to set the prop at or near the bottom of the boat without having to trim/tilt. So it should run in pretty skinny water and be able to get up on plane in some shallow stuff. The issue will can I float skinny enough to do what I want.
The previous owner used it to fish redfish tournaments in SW florida so this tells me something about its ability.
Additional comments greatly welcomed.

They are tough boats that are often used commercially around here. Sea Tow and BoatUS have their boats as well as a local netter.

I owned the 245 C-Hawk, the 23ft regular version of the C-Hawk and have spent some time on a 235 as well. All were excellent boats. I liked the 235 best of all ... light weight, easy to trailer, a very deep boat and very smooth ride considering the cost. It probably didn't ride as well as a Regulator, but the cost is about $80k less. If I was in the market for a smaller cc, I'd buy the 235 in a heartbeat.
If you are buying, be sure to check the deck for any soft spots as the plywood in some boats that were not well cared for can get wet from condensation. If you buy, be sure to keep the deck ventilated by keeping the inspection plates open.
