FAQs

Are AGAs worth the money? ›

Because an Aga is on all the time, you're going to get big fat gas bills. But on the positive side, not only does an AGA warm your kitchen, it can heat your whole house. Modern AGAs have controllable features that will give you improved energy consumption.

Does an Aga add value to a house? ›

We aren't the only people who hold this view; recent data from the SellingUp/Populus online survey of 2,100 UK adults (aged 18+) [read the fascinating full article here] reported that 38% of respondents felt that an Aga range cooker made the house more desirable, and 49% reported ambivalence reporting that it would ...

How much does it cost to move an Aga? ›

Dismantle - from £350

We can dismantle (and relocate) your old Aga Range Cooker from one location to another, quickly and safely, to ensure your cooker remains in perfect condition and full functioning.

Does an Aga use a lot of energy? ›

AGAs tend to be more expensive to run than conventional range cookers. The heat storage system of an AGA consumes more energy, leading to higher utility bills. The running costs will depend on the model you own, the fuel supply you use, and how you use your cooker.

Does turning Aga down save gas? ›

Frequently toggling your AGA on and off can lead to higher energy costs. This is attributed to the increased energy required to bring your AGA cooker up to the desired temperature each time it's powered on. If available, keep your AGA on economy setting/slumber setting to keep costs down.

Why is an AGA stove so expensive? ›

The owners buy them in the expectation of spare parts being available for a generation, or perhaps two. Why do AGA cookers cost so much? Are they worth the money? They're expensive because they're big and heavy, hand made in quite small numbers, and because the marketing and image can support the price.

How does an AGA work in summer? ›

Your AGA can still have a function

Your cooled-down AGA can function as an extra cupboard in the summer, as well as an extra work surface or table. It's great because things won't actually melt for once! You'll need to protect the surface of the hob with thick pads to avoid chips.

Do people still buy AGAs? ›

There is definitely a market for this type of cooker, judging by the success of other conventional Range Cooker manufacturers, we are just very dedicated to the traditional range. As of January 2022, the traditional, "always on" models of Aga Cooker (OC, GC, GE) will no longer be manufactured.

Does an Aga heat the whole house? ›

Yes, to an extent. However whether or not your chosen cooker will heat the room sufficiently depends on its heat output, the room's heat requirement, and the 'target temperature' (which is usually around 19 degrees C in a kitchen and 20 - 21 C in a living room).

Do you leave an Aga on all the time? ›

These models are so flexible they allow individual heat storage ovens to be left on while others may be switched off to save energy. In addition, the AGA hotplates can be switched on and off as required, with fast heat-up times of 10-12 minutes, so they are ready to cook when you are.

How much does an Aga service cost? ›

A callout in 2024 for an oil Aga is normally £120-£170 + VAT. Lets go with the mid point here and assume £174 with the VAT. This would cover most of the smaller parts but there are some valve changes and the like included in the list so we'll round up slightly and go with an average of £180 per visit in 2024 £.

How much does an Aga cost to run daily? ›

Cooking the 7 day menu on the AGA Dual Control with three ovens operated at full temperature and hotplates on as required by menu, ovens on economy when not required, costs £36.78. Average cost for electricity 28.62p/kWh (Source: Price based on OFGEM, January 2024).

How long does an Aga last? ›

AGA cookers are designed to last for many years, decades in fact. It is because of this longevity and the superior craftsmanship which goes in to creating each AGA cooker that some people consider buying a used AGA instead of a new one.

Do AGAs contain asbestos? ›

Is there any asbestos in the cooker? No, non of our Aga cookers contain asbestos – this was common in the very early models of Aga cookers but as we supply only very young cookers, this is not a concern.

Should I leave my AGA on all the time? ›

Q50. Are AGA cookers on all of the time? AGA cookers can be left on 24/7, especially during those cold winter months, providing that useful background heat. These models are so flexible they allow individual heat storage ovens to be left on while others may be switched off to save energy.

Do I need to service my AGA every year? ›

To ensure the best performance from your Aga it should be serviced once a year. This appliance must be installed and commissioned by a competent engineer.
